At a young age I found a passion for music, as soon as I started playing I realized that it was what I wanted to do for my career. I started studying and practicing as much as I could to learn anything and everything about it. As I progressed I applied Berklee College of Music and was accepted there to continue my studies, and one of the best lessons I learned was that I had an obligation to teach those who weren't given the same opportunities that I was. Beginners - intermediate have a healthy helping of both theory ( notes, scales, chords), technique ( physical drills), and creativity! Meaning, songwriting, listening, learning favorite songs.. improvisation! This of course varies from student to student, but whatever they are physically and mentally able to handle at the time, is what we will embark on -- nothing challenging enough to keep anyone away from their chosen instrument -- it's supposed to be fun - 'PLAY"ing music! Beyond my extensive experience as a professional in the Music Industry, I have held positions in a diverse range of teaching situations beyond private instruction. In this position, I was responsible for creating and implementing a rigorous K-4 curriculum and delivering it to 500+ students each week, as well as leading a daily reading Roots Reading group and conducting weekly reading assessments. One of the things I love most about teaching drums is the opportunity to introduce students to a wide range of musical styles and approaches toward music. I believe that exposure to diversity helps students become well-rounded musicians and broadens their appreciation for different types of music and ways of thinking about practicing and performing. I am a patient and encouraging teacher, and pride myself on maintaining a positive and supportive learning environment for my students. Read More

I think the most important part of teaching is developing a positive mentoring relationship to the student. My favorite teachers always went above and beyond to not only educate me on their favorite subject, but also to show me life lessons along the way and listen to my problems. Ultimately I know that not every one of my students will become a professional musician, and that is okay! I do want them to develop a positive relationship with rhythm and music, and an ability to enjoy these things in anything they listen to. Read More

I provide students with some essential books that should be held onto for as long as they are playing. All of my students study some classical snare drum. This is because the techniques used on snare can transfer to every other percussive instrument. It also is a good warmup and sets us up nicely to continue the lesson on whatever the student's focus is While covering fundamentals I like to mix in solos and etudes that utilize whatever techniques we may be covering.
