I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all curriculum; all my lesson plans are customized to each individual student. Technique is very important, but no more so than being able to apply it in a musical way. My goal is to get the student up and running on their instrument quickly, applying tools and techniques from each lesson. I have found this approach makes lessons informative, interesting and fun! I am a very passionate and enthusiastic teacher with a lot of patience. Every student is different and learns at their own pace. We set realistic goals based on the individual student. i like to begin each lesson with a warm up of rudiments and stick control, work on the lesson of the day and end with something we know well to make every lesson fun, productive and keep each student wanting to learn more, I tend to be more of an easy going teacher. For beginners I like to use books and a few easy songs to get the student started. As skill level grows, I try to encourage students to form their own chord progressions as well as using songs that I choose or a song the students chooses that will encourage them to play and learn more songs on their own. I also encourage intermediate level students to explore their imaginations and create their own songs. Read More

I believe every student is unique and will need to improve in different areas for different reasons. Every student will have a specific taste in music so I always to try design lessons based on the music style they enjoy most. I will also introduce new music to keep them inspired. But, in general I have found the best teaching style is to both agree on a list of songs to learn. Read More

My methods of teaching are universal for both young, old, new, beginner, or advanced. I take a very strong stance on rudimentary preparedness and understanding as well as the importance of maintaining physical composure while playing drums. The drums are obviously a physical instrument so exerting force in the correct and relaxed emotion while maintaining maximum results is a consistent. Whether it is playing snare drum, a drum set, or doing a variety of percussion work at a gig or practicing from your house, these are matters that are needed to be addressed. Read More

For beginners, I have a special system that implements coordination while utilizing proper counting technique. As their understanding of their limbs grows the more I begin to welcome actual musical notation. This system has proven time and time again to tackle the initial issue that coordination imposes. In intermediate to advanced students I stress the importance of technique, quality of sound, coordination, visualization, and relaxation/movement. I also stress the importance of sightreading and practice this with many of my students. Read More
