For beginning students, I begin by introducing proper technique and the most basic rudiments, start George Lawrence Stone's Stick Control, and introduce basic rock beats. When the student has the fundamentals mastered, we'll begin working on more advanced rudiments and work from Ted Reed's Syncopation. For more advanced students, we will cover odd time signatures, latin grooves, jazz concepts, improvisation, and ways to compose grooves and fills. It really depends on needs and desires of student!  I create custom lesson plans for each student depending on their current ability level, age, and future goals. I teach students how to play, as well as, read music.  I teach a variety of techniques and styles of music using books and making up lessons for my students.  I teach my students at any age how to play the set, along with snare drum techniques, and play with songs. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Vic Firth books. By doing so the student will be able to imitate, assimilate and finally innovate, which is the goal. Listening to lots of records and copying what the drums are playing is critical! I have been teaching music since 2005. I started as an in home music instructor, providing guitar, bass and piano lessons to people of all ages in their homes. As my teaching experience grew, I've added drums and ensemble/group lessons to my repertoire. I've also been hired as a bass and guitar instructor and curriculum director by a number of private music schools in and around the Boston area.
