Over twenty years of playing all instruments has taught me there is not one specific way to teach music, so I change my curriculum for every student and completely customize what you learn to how you learn, and what you're interested in. Together we will choose short term and long term goals, and I regularly learn music my students love, and then use those songs to demonstrate theoretical principles, instead of using music that comes out of some book. My teaching experience started in high school when I started teaching younger middle school students. During college I would also give lessons to beginners and then taught in studios. My extensive performing experience around the world has given me a well rounded education of music that I love to share with my students! If you want to learn rock songs, let's rock! If you want to jam to salsa records, let's salsa! Read More

I began teaching after graduating high school and have continued to do so ever since. During these years I attended college at California State University Chico, where I earned my Bachelor's degree as an audio engineer. This journey greatly helped me grow as a musician, teacher, leader, and engineer. Through out my college years I continued to play in bands both through my school and locally in our community, started my own business to help local musicians gain recognition and improve their skills, gained a new appreciation for musicianship and creativity through the eyes of an audio engineer, and of course taught my students to improve their musical abilities. I enjoy giving my students control over their own learning process at times. This means that I will sometimes provide them choices within the context of what I am trying to teach them. I also make lessons fun by performing duets with students to take a break from the daily material. I also emphasize site-reading in every lesson to develop this much-neglected skill. All of these techniques are designed to keep the student mentally engaged because it is only then that they will truly be learning as much as possible. Read More

Practice, of course, is important to learning any skill. But if a love of the instrument is there, practicing shouldn't be too much of a chore. I try to never give my students too much material at once, so as to frustrate them to the point of not wanting to play anymore. On the other hand, it is important to present them with challenges to keep them moving forward. First and foremost is to foster that love of music in them through enthusiasm and example. Read More

My first expirence teaching started back in high school with working indivisually and in group sessions with the drumline. I worked with all sections of the battery (quads, quints, bass drum, snare) on perfecting technique, levels between sections, theory, ect. After High School, and part way through college, I started giving indivisual lessons on the drum set studying a vast variety of genres and techniques Read More
