Even if the student has played percussion for years, I still want them to understand the fundementals for the instrument. As soon as the student is finished with rudiments, I want them to look at the different etudes in a percussion book that I will work off of for each meeting. I explain to them that in order to achieve a certain goal you must first obtain the facility by practicing the exercises assigned to them.
