I have been teaching for about 10 years now, both privately and in various music lesson stores throughout the Tampa Bay area. I have taught students ranging from 5 to 60 years of age. My students have been accepted into Blake Performing Arts High School, All County Orchestras, Tampa Bay Youth Orchestras, Tampa Metropolitan Youth Orchestras, and even Florida's All State Orchestras. I have also been able to develop my students' abilities from being last in their orchestras to first chair in their music programs. Read More

I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments. All music teachers dream that their students will be players for life, and may even find a lucrative career in music. Unfortunately, the statistics say that most students put their instrument away after graduating high school and never find the time to pick it back up. For this reason, the only permanent thing we absolutely can pass on to our students is the love of music and the art of being a good listener. Read More

Over the course of the past nine years I have taught in private music schools, public schools, and students' homes. My lessons are structured around what the student wants. For example, I have taught many students in middle and high school who wanted to prepare for competitions or college auditions. I have also taught many young children, who simply enjoy the sound of a stringed instrument and want to make that sound themselves! Read More

I like to begin the first lesson by recognizing the students strengths by having them show me what they can accomplish on their own. There are specific books that I like to teach out of depending on the skill level so that needs to be addressed during the first lesson. Recognizing and building on strengths to me should come before criticising weaknesses. Those will be addressed as they come along and exercises with scales and etudes will be chosen for those weaknesses, but that does not mean that challenging music needs to be played each and every time so that the student has to struggle for greatness. I teach music by breaking down the elements of a performance to as digestible a lesson as the student feels comfortable in tackling. By setting such a pace with realistic goals I can keep students engaged and encouraged to work through material and really achieve a feeling of competency. I encourage players to learn a piece thoroughly and practice often finding that by the time they've memorized the music they can work on the finer aspects of musicality and performance that really elevates the work. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
