I like to create a combination of my own supplementary material, along with what the students are preparing for classes or outside engagements. I believe in a very strong fundamental background and have created a set of exercises geared to maximize effectiveness, and guarantee progress. Excellence in preparation leads to excellence in performance, and a focus on fundamentals builds the skillset and the confidence to achieve. I have most students start with Essential Elements for fundamentals.  Then I progress to solo and duet repertoire when the time a student is able to grasp counterpoint and rhythm well.  Adult students can often move faster due to being able to understand the math behind music.  I also try to incorporate theory and history and culture with my lessons. Establishing a personal connection with them to create an environment of success is one that is always a concern of mine. My first teaching experience came in the summer of 2008, when I served as the Music Director at Camp Robin Rogers in Spencerville, Ohio, a program serving children with developmental disabilities. This wonderful experience reaffirmed my belief that anyone, regardless of age or ability, can learn to make music.
