I am a classically trained saxophonist with over five years of teaching experience. I have worked with students ages 10 through 40, in many different settings. I recently finished my student teaching placement, where I taught lessons on flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and trombone. I have taught every semester I have been in college thanks to being a part of the Musicianship and Advancing Pedagogy--MAP--Program in the College of Musical Arts. I taught for the Middle School and High School Band Academy Programs. There, I taught sectional rehearsal for anywhere between 2-14 students for an hour. I have most students start with Essential Elements for fundamentals.  Then I progress to solo and duet repertoire when the time a student is able to grasp counterpoint and rhythm well.  Adult students can often move faster due to being able to understand the math behind music.  I also try to incorporate theory and history and culture with my lessons. I began teaching privately as a high school student, working with begnning students at the middle school. I have taught privately in my home and in students' homes since graduating from college. Regular practice is very important and something I emphasize with my students. I like to include a mixture of classical and modern music in my lessons, so that students enjoy what they are learning and playing. If a student does not enjoy their time playing their instrument, they will not want to put the practice in and lessons will become a point of argument.  Read More
