I always create a unique lesson plan for each student based of their age, skill, and most importantly the music style or genre they want to pursue. I approach every genre with a strong foundation in order to make repertoire more approachable, such as learning a variety of scales, developing good tone, and working on method or etude books to strengthen the range of possibilities on their instruments. My teaching experience has covered various situations, styles, and instruments. During my undergraduate work I taught general music at an elementary school, and did my student teaching as an instrumental teacher in an elementary school, and as a band teacher in a middle school. In my junior year I spent three weeks teaching in Uganda, where I taught high school aged beginners and intermediate brass and percussionists. During my graduate degree I taught students of various levels and ages privately, and also taught the Trumpet Techniques class, where I taught non trumpet playing music education majors the basics of how to play trumpet as well as how to teach it in their future classrooms. I believe that every student's learning should be catered to for their individual needs, strengths, and weaknesses. Approaching every student as if they are different than the one previously ensures that there is assessment of needs in every lesson. I believe that every student regardless of their ability level will learn something, and should have the opportunity to learn music.
