My outlook on musical training begins with an exceptional foundation of fundamental skills. I stress the importance of air and finger efficiency, as well as an excellent ear. Developing those skills early in musical development predisposes a student to succeed. When the student shows a clear understanding of such concepts, focus will be shifted toward broader topics such as alternative practicing techniques, reed working, technical knowledge of the clarinet, and a comprehensive study of the standard repertoire, as a supplement to each student's individually chosen repertoire. I love teaching beginners of any age including special needs students. Most importantly, I will help you learn to play the music you LOVE and stay motivated. I specialize in Adult Beginners and am happy to teach students aged 9 to 109! I worked as a professional musician in New York City for several years and played in numerous Salsa bands, a Ska band—and small classical groups. I also led a group called The Triple Trouble Trombone Trio and a 12 piece Salsa band called “Profundo” as well as a 9 piece Salsa/Middle Easter R&B Hybrid band called “Havana Gila” Read More

I have been my musical journey on clarinet in the second grade, and I have stuck with it ever since! I then picked up tenor saxophone to play in the jazz big band, and I began my piano journey at the end of high school to diversify my musical knowledge! I have gained a lot of experience playing in the professional music world through playing at Westfield State! From playing in WSU's symphony, to creating my own chamber ensemble, to playing in the jazz big band, to playing in a pit orchestra and even dabbling in chorus and chamber choir, I like to be as musically versatile and explorative as I can! I have always felt such a deep sense of satisfaction when a student finally nails a difficult tune or passage, or is introduced to something in music that blows their mind. Nothing is better than inspiring a student to grow and progress, and that has always been at the core of my teaching style. I always want to strike the balance between constructive criticism and praising accomplishment in our lessons, as I understand that realistically not everyone wants to play music professionally. Every student has different goals in their music lessons. I aim to create a fun and safe learning environment that doesn't put unnecessary pressure on students. No matter what one teaches, the burden to learn ultimately lies on the student. I believe what truly makes a great teacher is the ability to invoke interest in the given topic, so that the student wants to learn more! I strive to help my students find the same joy I get from music and desire to practice/learn more. Read More

My goal is to teach my students to be musicians, and for them to walk away every week with a deeper appreciation for music. I believe in nurturing all my students' creativity while challenging their skills to help them achieve their goals. I continuously acknowledge their achievements, but will remind them of what needs improvement. My students are given multiple opportunities to perform as a soloist or as part of a small ensemble in recitals throughout the year. Read More

For beginners, I have a multitude of etudes, simple songs, and exercises to encourage sight-reading, finger comfortability, and basic cognitive understanding of music fundamentals such as scales. For guitar, I usually begin with fun simple songs such as "What do we do with the Drunken Sailor" and a simple blues. For woodwind instruments, I'll typically begin with songs such as Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, or some holiday songs during the holiday season. Read More
