That's why I always create new, customized lesson plans and provide individualized materials for all of my students. In my experience, this approach is most effective at increasing the student's musical ability—and it's a lot more fun! For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. In 2006, my love for music began at Temecula Middle School, which is where I played clarinet for three years and performed in Disneyland and Las Vegas. In 2013, I graduated from Temecula Valley High School and I completed four years of marching band there. I was clarinet section leader for one year and also played with the Bravura Youth Symphony Orchestra outside of school for three years. For beginning piano, I use the thompson and bastien books, along with basic theory books. As the student progresses, I introduce them to actual peices of vaying styles, as soon as they are ready. For saxophone and clarinet, I use multiple books, depending on the student's needs and goals and a host of my own materials and methods I have developed from years of teaching.
