My approach varied from student to student. I decide about it after the first lesson where I can determine what kind of steps will take. I have my own music books with songs and exercises that I have developed over last twenty years of teaching I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Over the years I've discovered that taught properly from day one, anyone can play the clarinet with ease! The clarinet is typically known as being a troublesome instrument to learn, but I have found that this is only due to poor hand technique and poor embouchure. Squeaks and squawks are only due to fingers not covering the holes, or too much mouth piece in the mouth. It is a priority of mine to make sure the student can produce a quality sound on their instrument, (for themselves, for myself and everyone else who gets to listen to them practice). Read More

Playing clarinet has always been a staple of my life. I started mentoring and giving private lessons to younger clarinet students in high school and continued on from there! I have traveled to students homes and worked out of my studio ever since. I like to use a good combination of technique exercises and expressive studies to give my students a well rounded education and understanding of how to perform. Read More

For beginning students, I prefer to start them on a book based in warming up and getting used to movement in hands if we are playing piano. Throughout my teaching, I incorporate music theory and ear training into my classes as it creates a fantastic bridge to understanding the instrument. As we get used to our new instrument, I will recommend some songs to get started on and allow my students to come to class with ideas and songs that they want to learn how to play or sing. Read More

My teaching experience goes back to my undergraduate days, I began teaching private lessons 7 years ago. I have a great experience for online teaching as well, as I recently had a variety of students to teach on Zoom. Currently I am a teacher at the Long Island Conservatory and I also teach privately. In my career I was also teaching music theory and piano and I did many workshops in primary schools where I gained a lot of experience to introduce kids and inspire them to start learning an instrument.
