Overview:
My goal in teaching woodwinds is to inspire young artists to find the joy in their own development. As a teaching musician for the past nine years, I have found my own joy in teaching on-on-one and watching my students progress over time. I like to teach active lessons full of movement, creation, and student-driven ideas. I teach the instrument - the notes, rhythms, techniques, but my students shine in their ability to use that knowledge to create something new and to feel confident about it. I am a performer myself, and my current project is to combine clarinet and tap dancing for the entertainment of my audience.
EXPERIENCE
I have taught private lessons for 9 years, and I can proudly say that the majority of my students were accepted either to middle and high school honor ensembles, or to their colleges of choice. Before I teach any student, I make it my goal to gather as much information as I can about why they wish to study clarinet, their goals, and their long-term dreams. My job is to help those dreams happen, so I keep a database of this information to consistently reference during my time with my students.
METHODS USED
My teaching process looks like a mountain stream. We start at the top of the mountain, and the goal is to get to the bottom. As I teach using my tried and true techniques, we make our way down, but when I notice that my student needs extra help, or should be pushed more, we detour into another stream until we can return to our main path. Sometimes, we diverge immediately and continue down different paths until we make it to the bottom anyway! How I teach depends on the student's age, skill level, and personality. Some resources that I use to teach are: Rubank, Rose 32, Selected Studies, Trevor Wye, and any band method book that the student currently works out of.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style matches the personality of the student. I can vary my lesson from high energy to calm and sensitive. As an previous elementary school music teacher to 3000 students, I have the ability to read a student and find the most effective way to teach immediately. When it is appropriate, I enjoy teaching in the Orff-Schulwerk approach to music education, which means making music through movement, speech, play, and creativity. This approach rounds out my students as musical people rather than just instrument players. I help my students develop practice sessions and goals, and after every lesson, they can check their personal Google Doc to see what tips, tricks, and goals I have written down for them. The Google Doc is a fun way to see improvement as well!

Corrine has worked with the clarinet section at my school from my freshman year all the way up to my senior year. She has always been caring and loving towards us and creates a friendly and fun environment when teaching. Her lessons are thorough and engaging so that when you leave, you don’t feel overworked, yet you feel a sense of accomplishment at having learned something new.

I have been working with Corrine since middle school and she has guided me into the top band of my high school. The fundamentals she has implemented into me have stuck since my first lesson with her in sixth grade. She is able to build a clarinetist from the ground up by starting with a solid foundation then progressing to advanced musicianship. Corrine is excellent at assessing my problems and coming up with unique ways to solve them that kept me engaged in the lesson and inspire me to pursue my passion for the Clarinet. I prefer her over other tutors because she is very problem solving based. Corrine is able to identify and analyze my problems and come up with clever and efficient exercises to help me with my personal needs. Another reason I continue to enjoy practicing with her is that she is very easy to communicate with and she explains her solutions to my problems in a way I can understand easily. Corrine is an amazing teacher and very friendly. Most of all, she actually cares about me and my problems and she really wants to see me grow my skills to become a better clarinetist by sharing her true passion for the instrument.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
