I have always enjoyed teaching others and watching the lightbulb snap on with inspiration. I started teaching my fellow high school students and middle school students my junior and senior years of high school while guided by a Music Buddies program through my youth orchestra. I have tried to continue teaching privately ever since where ever I am. I have also taught some wonderful adult beginners, but I have mostly taught middle and high school students and understand the challenges of balancing school, possible work, with fitting in the time to work on and benefit from all that music programs have to offer at those ages. I can give a little "tough love" when it's required and I like to push my students to apply themselves on their instrument. I take a different approach with each student based on their learning needs and goals. The student and I (and parent when appropriate) will regularly speak about their goals and aspirations, as well as discuss both long- and short-term plans. All students will study scales, intervallic leaps, and learn base-level physics about the clarinet and its partials. Music lessons can be very boring if there is not the right balance of things taught. I always make sure that each lesson incorporates a mixture of technical work specific to the clarinet, scales, note and rhythm reading, basic clarinet repertoire, well known pieces, unknown pieces and sight reading. I have been teaching music for about fifteen years. Currently I teach music at a charter school where I am the lead music teacher. I currently teach high school students piano performance as well as AP music. I studied at the renowned Hartt School of Music, Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz in Hartford CT where I graduated with my bachelors in music with honors.
