Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet

In addition to helping me improve my facility with the saxophone, Paul helped me develop a solid pedagogy for the instrument. At Queens I also devised a curriculum for the Queens College Balkan Music Ensemble, a group which I founded and directed for one semester before graduating in 2012.   Since completing my masters degree, I've continued teaching privately, and performing with my groups, Raya Brass Band and Sherita. I perform around 80 shows a year, both in the New York Area and touring nationally. Read More

That way, whatever style of music they are interested in as they develop will be available to them. For my saxophone students, I prefer to focus on learning scales and melodies so that they have the skillset to perform any music they're interested in learning. As with my piano students, I meet the student where they are and help guide them towards goals they can work towards, whether that's learning a specific song, a style of music, something they are working on in school, or anything else! Philosophy Every student, musician and person is different. I think it's my job to find out what inspires and motivates each student, and guide them towards their goals. I think it's important that it has to be fun to be interesting, and the other way around, only then can the student reach their full potential as a musician. At the core my goal is for the student to improve, and enjoy how wonderful it is to play music. Read More

Instruments: Clarinet

My methods vary by age group and skill level. I generally use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for students new to the clarinet then progress to Baermann Scale Studies as well as several different methods depending on the student's ability. In addition to etudes, solo repertoire is introduced, also based on the student's ability. Outside of playing the instrument, my lessons include reed fixing and balancing, practice techniques, performance anxiety reduction techniques, and for more advanced students, audition techniques. Instruments: Clarinet

My teaching style allows room for students to explore their own individual interests while remaining within a framework of achievable and incremental goals. One of the amazing things about music instruction is it allows people (especially younger students) to learn the process of incremental goal setting and achievement for long term success. I like to work with my students to develop a set of goals and a game plan for how they can achieve what might seem far off to them. Read More

Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet

I value my student's love for the content they are learning. I seek to hear what students like to listen to and what music they enjoy, and using that information figure out how best to give listening recommendations and assignments. I hope that by allowing students to express themselves through the music they love, a strong relationship between the student and music can be cultivated for my student and me. Read More

Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet

My first love is jazz, and as such I have a strong love of improvisation and aural skills, which I believe are relevant in all forms of music (even Bach improvised!). Once some fundamental skills and theoretical knowledge is ascertained, I like to build on more advanced musical skills like learning songs by ear, being able to identify certain common chord progressions, helpful tips for memorizing pieces, and learning to personalize music through expressive techniques and improvisational application where appropriate.
