Upon turning 8 years old, it had been my lifelong dream to play and teach music for a living. This of course marked the point in time when I first picked up the guitar. I was lucky enough to be taught by four phenomenal instructors - Dennis DelGaudio (Billy Joel guitarist 2009), Chris Jusino, Artie Blaurock (Sweet Revenge, Needulhed), and Rick Stone (Jazz Guitar at Hofstra University). Each of my instructors helped to mold my style of playing, and inspired me to seriously pursue what I loved the most. Read More

For students who have no experience, I start with Alfreds Kids Guitar Course 1. I want my students to learn the essentials such as basic reading skills, beginner chords, and basic theory. For my students that have this foundation built, I teach using the Major Method. This method was created by my teacher, Rolf Sturm, who insists that its the fastest and easiest way to learn the entire neck of the guitar. Read More

Afterwards I was fortunate to study with the great Jerry Jemmott on Long Island (Aretha Franklin and BB King's bassist). He taught me approaches to music that changed my life. I subsequently played in blues and cover bands for many years after this. Throughout this time I have continued to compose all sorts of music including country, bossa nova, counterpoint and rock. With a young boy at home to care for and another on the way I am focused on teaching for the next few years exclusively before I get back to recording and performing live. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with simple chords and teach them a few fun songs. If the student is interested in learning how to read music, I will use Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance if they are interested in performing live. For adults, I like to find out what they are most interested in, whether it is a specific genre, (jazz/classical) or if they are more interested in learning songs (classic rock/pop/etc.) or songwriting. My teaching style is light and fun and geared to the temperament of the child and the specific goals of the parent. My methods are traditional pedagogy. With younger students under the age of 5 and special needs students I make use of tactical manipulatives for example play doh to assist with fine motor skills. I also incorporate if needed coloring full body movement etc if needed. I try to set realistic goals with both the student and parent bringing various rewards and incentives for achievement..
