During my lessons, I remain very flexible. Every student is different. We all have our good and bad days. Staying tuned in to my students helps me know what they need at any moment. Sometimes we need to push a little harder, and sometimes we need to slow down a bit. The time of day, the weather, the time of year and many other factors affect how a student feels when they sit down to work with me. Read More

I teach the basics using a combination of methods, customizing lessons to each student's skill level, ability level, and interest (classical/folk/modern). For beginning students I suggest using the Suzuki Method, or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once each student is ready to move beyond the fundamentals, I find exercises and solos to best fit and improve their skill level for recital performances, competitions, strings class/orchestra, or other activities. My teaching experience goes back to my high school days, where we would volunteer to help tutor the local middle school orchestra members on music they were working on for performances. Many of my classmates would also come to me for help with practicing or if they had a music theory question. This continued in college, and before I knew I was working as a violin and piano teacher at a local music store. Read More

I am excited to begin teaching music. Along with my experience as a classroom teacher, I have also tutored English to ESOL students. As a tutor, I assigned homework regularly and kept students accountable by checking for completion and accuracy. When it comes to learning how to play an instrument, the importance of practicing regularly on one's own cannot be emphasized enough. For my younger students, I will be using accountability notebooks for students to keep a record of when and how long they practiced. Read More

For pianists, there are so many different method books, I recommend for beginners Faber Method Series for younger beginners, for adult beginners we can start with Alfred's All in One Method for Adult Beginners. I have used Alfred's Series, Piano Adventures, John Thompson's Series, Bastien Series, Playtime Piano Series (also Faber). For more intermediate students I would use books that are a collection of different types of baroque and classical pieces, and First Lessons In Bach, and for more advanced students solos and concerti from composers such as Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, LIszt, etc. Read More

I started teaching while in High School some 12 years ago. Gradually my studio has built up and is generally in the 20-30 student range, generally where I like it. I've taught privately in people's homes, in my own studio, for local music studios, and online. In these many years I've found teaching to be as much if not more enjoyable than performing. Instead of showing others my love of music I get to instill it in my students. Read More
