I am a member of the Symphonicity Orchestra in Virginia Beach, VA and the Georgia Philharmonic Orchestra in Atlanta, GA. I have studied under the direction of The Hampton Roads Chamber Players and The Bay Youth Orchestra in Norfolk, VA. Currently performs several times a year at The Biltmore House in Asheville, NC and several other events in the Atlanta Metro area. My teaching method will be largely based on what you want to accomplish as a musician. My students taking the classical route will become familiar with the Suzuki Method books. I like to supplement this with etudes, folk tunes, and something of personal interest to you (pop music, world music, video game, etc.) If you are more interested in a fiddle/bluegrass approach, I will start you on the O'Connor Method books for violin/viola. I teach the basics using a combination of methods, customizing lessons to each student's skill level, ability level, and interest (classical/folk/modern). For beginning students I suggest using the Suzuki Method, or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once each student is ready to move beyond the fundamentals, I find exercises and solos to best fit and improve their skill level for recital performances, competitions, strings class/orchestra, or other activities. I started teaching while in High School some 12 years ago. Gradually my studio has built up and is generally in the 20-30 student range, generally where I like it. I've taught privately in people's homes, in my own studio, for local music studios, and online. In these many years I've found teaching to be as much if not more enjoyable than performing. I began giving private and group music lessons soon after graduation from high school in 2002, and quickly learned to love it. During college, I took on some new students and continued to gain experience in a variety of instruments as I took classes and taught not only cello, but also piano and violin. Within months of my college graduation, I became involved with a mission school in the Dominican Republic, where I taught music theory, history, chorale, and private lessons -- all in the Spanish language.
