I generally will start off students with the Hal Leonard Essential Elements books 1 and 2. Once the fundamentals from those books have been understood, I will start the students on repertoire that is appropriate for their level. I generally will start off on Classical music, but if the student has a request I will help them work on that song unless I know that their skill level isn't at the point where they can perform that song. I thrive on my students' success. I am a patient and passionate instructor. However quickly you want to advance is up to you. Lessons are for guidance, but practice is where you will achieve proficiency. I will set clear goals for you based on what you show me you are capable of. As you may have read, I am an advocate of challenges, and it is my goal to keep my students actively engaged with their progressing technique and repertoire. Read More

For beginner strings I use several method books (elementary and 6th students can come with prescribed method books from their public school teacher) such as Essential Elements, Orchestra Expressions, String Essentials. If parents would like to use solo books, I use Suzuki Method Books (not necessarily the method of only learning by ear) in conjunction with note reading workbooks. As they age I use other method books (violin, viola, cello. double bass) such as Wohlfahrt, Mazas, Kreutzer, Flesch, Schradieck, Dont, Bach Sonatas and Partitas, Rick Mooney's shifting and thump position book series, Klengel, Bach Cello Suites, Popper, PIatti, Smandl Method, Fischer, and of course as they advance any standard sonatas and concerti, such as Mozart 5 in AM, Mendelssohn in em, Hadyn Concerto in CM, anything from the Baroque, classical, and romantic era. We have all heard that practice makes perfect. In reality, perfect practice makes perfect, and true improvement comes from proper practice technique. That can seem a difficult goal for students, so each lesson targets a realistic goal for practice techniques and improvement. As we work on the short-term objectives, we also have the long-term goal of recitals and possibly other performances throughout the year. Music theory has a place in each lesson, as it is one of the basics for eventual success in musicianship. Read More

Love for music is one of the most essential components of dedication to learn. I want to see my students have a genuine desire to grow in their musical skills, and I encourage this by setting realistic goals for each of my students. I tailor my instruction to each student by including musical pieces that hone in on a skill set and some that are for fun. I try to find out what inspires my students in order to keep them engaged and excited to learn. Read More

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
