As a tutor, I assigned homework regularly and kept students accountable by checking for completion and accuracy. When it comes to learning how to play an instrument, the importance of practicing regularly on one's own cannot be emphasized enough. I am a member of the Symphonicity Orchestra in Virginia Beach, VA and the Georgia Philharmonic Orchestra in Atlanta, GA. I have studied under the direction of The Hampton Roads Chamber Players and The Bay Youth Orchestra in Norfolk, VA. I urge my students to practice regularly on a consistent schedule; improvement is dependent on this, but I also encourage them to explore. Always start where the student is, and take them from there. Always encourage and inspire students to be better than yesterday. Progress, no matter the amount, is progress. Take your own pace. If you have a specific deadline, for example a college audition, you will have to commit to practicing more than usual and we will create a plan of action. Also, I do write letters of recommendation.
