I began playing cello in elementary school, and not soon after began participating in Youth Orchestras both in New Jersey and in New York. I completed my Master's degree at Tbilisi State Conservatoire under the guidance of Prof. Tamara Gabarashvili (Tchaikovsky competition 5th prize 1966). Since 2004 until 2015 I was a principal cellist of Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theater. Since 2004 I am teaching private cello lessons and also working at music schools and pre-school places, and I am also a member of a string quartet "Iberi." For beginner students I usually start with teaching the fundamentals of how to hold the cello and bow and how to make a sound, using Pizzicato and bow movement. I then introduce the Suzuki volume 1-4 books and make sure that the student learns a piece that will help him or her improve the most but at the same time will ensure an enjoyable and successful learning experience. I have over 13 years of private teaching experience with cellists of all ages and experience levels. As a soloist, ensemble member, and participant in international festivals and competitions, I have performed throughout the US, China, Canada, Switzerland, and Russia. I have performed as a soloist with various orchestras throughout Connecticut including the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and was a member of Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra of the USA. Though my education is in classical music, I am also an experienced performer and arranger of pop, rock, and other contemporary music, and aim to allow students to use the cello to find their own artistic voices in whatever genres they enjoy most.
