It depends on the student's age and level of skill, however, I like to focus on building a good rapport with a student while learning and cementing the essentials of cello playing: having a good posture, holding the bow, reading, etc. I prefer to have a process that is somewhat slow in the beginning and that gradually picks up as the student becomes more acquainted with the cello. My work with the DCYOP, an El-Sistema inspired program, involves teaching the basics of playing the violin, viola, cello and music theory, adjudicating students’ progress, leading sectionals and full rehearsals in various DC schools, some from the most underserved communities. Highlights are having all the different schools come together for a large performance at the Kennedy Center and the students performances with Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell and Esperanza Spalding. I’ve also facilitated many youth orchestra performances and summer camps as string teaching artist in DC and Maryland showcasing that I can motivate the students to a high quality performance regardless of the amount of time. Jennifer is an eclectic violinist, violist and, composer from Beaver, Pennsylvania. Her passion is to connect people through the power of music, whether it is teaching privately in the Greater Chicago area, or performing and composing with her multi-genre ensemble, Inside Voice(s). In recent years, Jennifer performed with Kaki King on the New York Public Radio. I'm receiving my Doctoral of Musical Arts Degree from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in this coming May 2020.
