I began teaching 9 years ago while studying classical singing in college. My students have ranged from absolute beginners to intermediate level performers. I have helped students prepare for auditions, performances, and even a sung marriage proposal! It brings me great joy to see a student succeed vocally. My biggest reward is seeing my students passionate about their voice, their instrument, their music. I focus a lot on understanding music from the piano so I feel very happy when they can demonstrate good musicianship skills in challenging settings. Because every student has his/her own learning style, my lessons cater to those styles. I figure out a student's strengths and weaknesses. I acknowledge the accomplishments caused by the strengths while I focus on developing the weaknesses. For example, if a student excels melodically but has trouble maintaining accurate rhythm, I will engage the student in listening to and playing many interesting melodies that require him/her to pay close attention to counting the rhythms in order to master playing the melodies. The most important thing for me as a teacher is to see my students having fun, and really enjoying learning their instrument. I want to see them be passionate about getting better because they’re excited about what’s coming next. By learning about the students goals, and also learning about their musical taste and the kinds of music that inspire them, I can create a lesson plan that totally dedicated to each individual student so that they get the most out of their lesson, and so that I get them closer to their goal. Seven years ago my career as a musical theatre actor led me into the world of teaching and for that, I could not be more grateful. I have a great deal of experience working as both a voice teacher and a musical theatre teaching artist.
