I have been teaching private music lessons for more than 30 years at my home and at my student's homes.  After I received my Master's degree I obtained my teaching certificate in vocal and instrumental music for grades K - 12.  I taught vocal music for the Jersey City Board of Education and later I taught strings for the  Kearny Board of Education.  I prepared students for auditions and recitals always encouraging them to practice and learn music theory and music history. No matter what the ability level and age, I try to find out what music the student is interested in. I do not teach from prefabricated books but rather teach songs to students and within those songs there are lessons. I have devised my own teaching methods which have been highly successful. This varies depending on the student. I will typically design my lessons around the student's own individualized needs. I believe that there are many avenues that students can go down on the musical adventure. In the very beginning, there are basic, fundamental things that need to be learned, and repeated, but after that has been accomplished, it can go in many directions. I feel that if a student can make a personal connection with music that they love, and learn how to express that through their instrument of chouce, then their learning is both accelerated and enhanced.
