I like to combine Technique and Theory with hands on application into songs. I start by doing an analysis of the level of theory and the proficiency of playing of the student. Then, I create a path of Theory = Practical learning to do. In theory, we analyze how music works before we touch the instrument. Then, we go on to learn technique on the instrument and learn song adapted to the students taste of music In this part, we also apply our theory knowledge onto what we play. Read More

I am a music instructor, and professional guitarist/perfomer/songwriter based out of New Jersey. I have been teaching professionally since 2006. My goal is to teach to the students needs, and allow them to get whatever they hope to get out of music, be it competence on an instrument, performing, improvisation, reading music, understanding theory...whatever their journey entails. I also put together performance opportunities for my students twice a year. Read More

I like to lay a foundation for what musical notes are and how they relate to the instrument. If we're on guitar I will draw a piano keyboard and give the student the guitar string names and make them figure out the rest of the notes. Then I teach them what chords are and, now that they know their way around a fretboard, they can build the chords themselves. While most students aren't total beginners and won't need all of this groundwork to be laid by me, I've found that almost everyone has gaps in knowledge, more often than not when it comes to actual note names and the music theory behind the instrument. I began teaching Private Lessons when I was 17 to elementry school age students and fell in love with it immediatley, I love sharing with others and figuring out how to make the impossible possible. Music can seem mysterious or daunting at first, but my job is to break it down in a methodical way to help my students digest a song/topic and reveal the way a "mystery" functions. Since highschool I've always had a handful of students that I've worked with weekly in my private studio. Read More

One of my main goals as a teacher is to get to know my student, how they best learn, and what it is they love about music. My own love for music and particular bands/genres is what gave me the drive to keep practicing, and I bring this same approach to each of my lessons. Nothing makes me more happy than to see one of my students getting excited about something they are playing--and because of this, I structure my lessons to maximize the aspects of music each student enjoys, while making sure to incorporate fundamental aspects of technique and music theory regardless of the particular music we are studying.
