For beginning students, I normally start with Alfred's Drum Method. This book works on the fundamentals of reading snare drum music and basic technique. Once the students grasps the basics on reading and playing with a metronome then we tend to move to Tommy Igoe's Groove Essentials (while still working on the Alfred's Method). After the student has began to play with the audio tracks and have succesfully gone through a few lessons from Groove Essentials then we begin to work on some solo repertoire and personal favorites as well. For young children, consistency and fun are the name of the game. I like to use some simple materials and try to develop a love for the instrument and love for making music above all else. After a period of discovery and technical growth I will introduce material suitable for a recital performance. For young and older adults I like to take a more focused approach. Many students have an idea of what they would like to work on, and I am happy to help guide them to reach their goal. Read More

I make sure that beginner students understand the instrument and start with the proper technique before they can develop bad habits. I try to pick a song or finger exercises for them each lesson as well as a few exercises where they can develop their reading skills. As a student becomes more comfortable with the instrument that is when we can get into more challenging pieces of music as well as different scales and exercises that will help them with their improvising as well as their overall understanding of music. Every student is unique in how they approach and respond to music, so I make it a point to teach each individual student at their own pace. I also try to gauge what motivates and excites them, which allows me to better help them grow and develop in desired areas. Knowing these areas will help make lessons more fun, engaging, and rewarding for the students. When teaching adult students, I will accommodate them based on their goals, needs, and skill level. My teaching experience started back in 2008. Before I even went to college for music. I learned a lot of theory on my own but I went to college to further my knowledge. I have studied orchestra arrangement, Serialism, as well as Classical, Jazz and Rock music. I am most experiences in Rock / Metal music. I've been playing Metal since I was about 13 and I started to look at more complex music when I was about 16. Read More

Seeing a student progress instrumentally and theoretically is extremely rewarding and what I hope to accomplish through teaching. Setting goals throughout the lesson process is fundamental to a student progressing at their own pace and recognizing those goals will fuel their motivation to continue and prosper at their instrument. This is why students who know what they want to get out of their instrument in advance will have an advantage. Read More

I honestly and openly admit that when I first started taking guitar lessons (at age 13), I had struggled with many of the same things as a large percentage of my students do.   So unlike many other teachers out there, to whom guitar playing came much more naturally and easily, I can still truly understand the students' problems and offer my own insights and solutions to these problems. This is something that the other, more "naturally talented", teachers simply can not do - because they never experienced any of those problems themselves firsthand. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
