I feel that one of the most important aspects of music that is often overlooked, is that music should be fun. Because of this, I try to keep my lessons focused on material that really excites a student. I believe that its very important to introduce a student to a wide variety of music to help them identify what really inspires them. Once a student has discovered an aspect of music that they're truly passionate about, then they are almost much more motivated to put in the practice to master that aspect of music. Read More

For beginning folk/pop guitar students I use the Hal Leonard Guitar Method. For Classical guitar I use a combination of various resources, including Segovia scales, Sor studies, Guilianni right-hand studies and Frederick Noad method books. I definitely encourage students to work towards performance of the music they are working on, and try to schedule recital/performance opportunities as students deveope and gain mastery over their material. I always try to maintain a healthy balance between keeping the student working on music that challenges them, and advances their technique, with the need to have fun and enjoy the playing of a musical instrument as a means of entertainment and relaxation. I'm a multi-instrumentalist, a songwriter, a producer, a performer, and a lifelong student. I believe there is an opportunity to learn with each new day, and I've always said that someone who has just picked up the instrument for the first time might have a fresh new take that even a seasoned veteran hadn't even thought of. My life has been enriched by great teachers, and I hope to pass that gift on to others looking to further enjoy making music. Read More

I like to work with students toward their goals. Setting achievable goals with the student and guiding them as they accomplish the goals. My teaching style is to mentor and coach students so they enjoy their time playing music as well as see their progress. Helping each student with the individual challenges the encounter is a priority, and every student is unique. I always take time to find out what inspires the student and tailor the lessons and repertoire so they enjoy the music they are working on. Read More

I love showing students how to work to learn, once they see how work pays off you can't stop them. I have my own Learn To Play Guitar book that I now use as handouts that have vocabulary, open chords, bar chords, inside chords, along with major and relative minor scales. The handouts are in color and done with a graphics program so they're not handwritten. I teach them to play scales with a metronome and they are usually playing 16th notes and counting it out while they play it in the first month. Read More

My methods vary as I cater towards the individual and his/her respective needs and wants. Some of the methods and resources I draw from include the Suzuki Method, Effortless Mastery, and the philosophy of Music As A Language. Music is a language and I aim to teach it like one to the best of my ability. If I had to put it into one sentence, I would say that my overall personal goal and philosophy as a teacher is to teach myself out of a job. Read More

I know that every student has a different learning style, and therefore, each lesson plan is custom-made. I work to further develop their natural skills, and making them feel comfortable working on what doesn't come as easily. Together, the student and I work to find out exactly what inspires them, and then all of their lessons will revolve around that. Read More
