I always start by asking the question: Where would you like to be with your instrument? What kind of music do you see yourself playing? If the student can't find an answer, I make suggestions and guide them until they find what resonates with them. I then go on to pick a piece of music that the student wants to learn or that I suggest based on their tastes and focus on learning it with them part by part. Read More

I have been teaching music since 2005. I started as an in home music instructor, providing guitar, bass and piano lessons to people of all ages in their homes. As my teaching experience grew, I've added drums and ensemble/group lessons to my repertoire. I've also been hired as a bass and guitar instructor and curriculum director by a number of private music schools in and around the Boston area. My lessons focus on creating excitement and enthusiasm for the instrument through playing examples, live playing or "jamming" and encouraging the student to develop a consistent practice schedule. For beginning and intermediate students, I like to assign short pieces from method books such as Student Instrumental Course and Rubank. For more advanced students, I will help them explore their particular interests, introduce them to traditional repertoire, and for jazz/rock/pop students, aid them in the process of transcribing the music they love, which benefits their vocabulary as well as their ears. In developing a complete musician, I want to offer support for my students' other musical activities, as well as provide them with resources that they might not have elsewhere. Read More

I have been teaching privately for 40 years. My approach is to find out and pinpoint the students goals which we work on together to find out what they are. Many of my bass students have gone on to start their own bands or been hired by working bands and have their own careers. The goal is to learn and keep it interesting having fun while we are working together motivating the student to practice and get better. Read More

The teaching style that I use is to get to know my students and keep a fun and engaging atmosphere. I try to convey that the goal of learning an instrument is to play music, so I always save time for playing songs or jamming together. I always found that my best teachers were kind and lighthearted individuals that understood my needs. I try to be the same for my students. Read More

I make sure that my students have not only a complete understanding of the instrument, but also of the music that they are playing. This is vital in the making of a well-rounded musician. Whether or not you are in your own band, school band, studying classical music or playing jazz, developing your musicianship and understanding of music will take you to new heights. It is important to me to give my students the tools to develop their own music, bass lines or guitar parts, improvisations, interpretations, and creative voice. Read More
