I began teaching guitar lessons as a high school senior, and have enjoyed seeing others progress ever since. Among my one time students I can count a a former Boston Commissioner of Transportation! As a member of several prestigious Berklee programs including the BGJI, I've had the privilege to teach masterclasses in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, Spain and Colombia. Having studied with many teachers including jazz luminaries John Patitucci, Ben Street, Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner and Hal Crook, I've absorbed a multitude of techniques to help an individual student achieve his or her goals. I have been teaching privately for 40 years. My approach is to find out and pinpoint the students goals which we work on together to find out what they are. Many of my bass students have gone on to start their own bands or been hired by working bands and have their own careers. The goal is to learn and keep it interesting having fun while we are working together motivating the student to practice and get better. Read More

I would say my second best quality as a teacher is being able to teach the theory behind the musical they are learning. I mainly teach voice, guitar, and piano, but through those styles, I also teach jazz guitar, vocal improvisation, classical and jazz theory, ear training, vocal technique, and composition and arranging. I want to be able to cover as many areas of music that a student is interested in. Read More

For younger beginning students, I typically start with either the Suzuki Guitar Method or Alfred's Kid's Guitar Course 1. For older children, I typically start with either the Suzuki Guitar Method or Guitar for Kids: Hal Leonard Guitar Method. Students are able to progress through the Suzuki Guitar Method through multiple volumes, or move through the Hal Leonard Guitar Method - Book 1 and continue through subsequent method books. For a classical guitar approach, I use the Suzuki Guitar Method, the Fredrick Noad Method Books, and the Christopher Parkening Guitar Method Book. Read More

I like for my students to develop a passion for music by showing them what can be accomplished with a little hard work and discipline. My method includes teaching them the fundamentals of music, such as reading, harmony, theory, and songwriting, while at the same time showing them how to play their favorite music while applying these fundamentals. Making the lesson fun is absolutely essential! I believe being flexible with my teaching style accomplishes this without being tedious or "boring" for the student. Read More

I have been teaching lessons for 5 years now and got started teaching while studying at Berklee, since then I have grown a lot as a teacher. I have taught guitar and music production at Needham Public High School, where I taught students of all skill levels in classroom settings. I also currently teach at School of Rock Watertown where I teach private lessons as well as ensembles. In both of these jobs, I worked with students of varying age ranges from 7 to 70+ and learned techniques to make information stick. Read More

My main goal in every lesson is to be as time efficient as possible. We start with introducing new warm up exercises or new approaches to playing the instrument with confidence and facility. This is important for students of all levels so we can learn the correct ways to execute our favorite music in the most efficient way possible. From there I always spend the most time on the student's goals, like learning a new song or perhaps theory and improvisation. Read More
