I'm a Master's Student studying Piano Performance at California Baptist University (CBU). I've been playing the piano since I was six, and I hope to teach music at the university level one day. During my time at CBU I've had the opportunity to perform many times with various groups in churches, schools, and camps, and to tour internationally in Japan and China, as well across the United States. Professional but fun. First we review the last couple of lessons, and then we do new- building upon what we have done earlier. Each student is unique, and I teach to them individually. I call it my Individual Music Program! I really get a kick out of seeing my students learn and progress along the musical staff, as the month go on., Often times I will get a brother and sister for lessons teaching them to play music together and become comfortable performing for family members and the public. Of course, everything depends on what you, the student, want to learn! For younger students that are just starting, I've found the Accent on Achievement books to be very helpful in developing the basics of playing. From there, Classically-focused players would learn solo repertoire, Jazz-focused players would learn standards and improvisation, and all the other genres would begin to narrow down their appropriate fields. Adults are certainly welcome as well and I'd love to help them learn whatever they are interested in. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Piano or Guitar Lessons for the Young Beginner by Andrew Scott and Gary Turner. The student, even at a young age, learns an introduction to music theory. Each concept is taught in a very methodical and step-by-step approach. As a teacher, I am looking to prepare students for ongoing learning for years to come. The language of music can be very confusing and I am looking for ways to minimize those perplexing times. I approach teaching in a fun, practical way. It is easy to get swept up in technique and theory when learning an instrument. While those are very important, it is essential to apply them musically. Every concept I teach, I will provide an example in an actual piece of music. I will help students set realistic goals to achieve to keep the passion going. Music is my life and I want to share my love for music with my students. Read More

My teaching style is very free like, I like to make sure you are using your ear when you're playing. When I say use your ear it means active listening to what is being played. When you are a bass player you and the drummer are locked in as a unit, I will go more into that in a lesson. Hearing chord progressions and understanding where to play and when to play is the difference between a good player and a great player. Read More
