Hi! My name is Daniel and I have been teaching guitar for over 15 years. I started playing the guitar at a young age. I learned mainly by ear from the first year or two, and asked anyone I met who played to teach me anything they could. Once I knew the basic chords and could play a few songs, I began taking professional lessons. My teacher taught me how to develop my ear properly so I could learn what I wanted without any help. It all started when I took my first drum lesson in the 4th grade. From then on, I wanted to play whenever I could. I played in all my school bands from middle school to high school. Graduated Southern University, home of the world famous "Human Jukebox" which I was a member of for 3 years, as well as playing for my church since I was 13. Along the way I have had the honor of meeting and learning from respected musicians such as Lawrence Jackson (former director of SU Bands), Herman Jackson (Brother of Randy Jackson), Jerry Lee Lane (Marching percussion pioneer) and countless others. I don't have just ONE method...because every student has different likes, and different goals, they need personalized lessons. Some enjoy music theory, others prefer to just learn a more basic approach. Since I learned formally (in school/lessons) and informally (by ear, self-taught and playing onstage), I can give students whichever method suits their goals, with as much or as little theory as they are comfortable with. I specialize in playing by ear, which is essential for students who want to play onstage or make music with others, without worrying about sheet music. Read More

Method or style technique used will always depend on the preference and requirements of the student. It will also depend on the style of music. For example, classical guitar requires perfection of technique for good execution. This requires practice of scales, arpeggios and such. However, if the student is older and just wants to be able to strum a few chords then that requires a different approach where we focus on simple technique and work on things like rhythm or posture etc. Read More
