I first try to establish why the student wants to learn their instrument and what artists/bands they are influenced by if any. Although I do try to establish goals for them, these goals are reasonable and attainable. It is important to me that they progress at their own pace and have fun as well. Nothing is more important to me than helping others develop a passion for music and I will use anything from Bach to Beethoven or The Beatles to Guns N'Roses to help them achieve it. Read More

I am an enthusiastic young teacher who takes great pride in watching my students achieve their musical goals. I have been playing music since I was a child, with 15 years experience on the bass guitar alone. I have been touring regionally and nationally with my main project, Electric Love Machine, since 2014 and recently won the 2016 Maryland Music Award for Best Electronic Artist. Traveling around the country has taught me many things about musical diversity and has added many more influences to my personal repertoire. Read More

My approach actively tries to preserve and cultivate the original passions of music that lead students to seek lessons in the first place. The material we focus on (which also serves as the vehicle for learning about music-in-general) will be determined foremost by the students' interests. Students who are especially conducive or committed to book-learning and linear structure will be accommodated as well, and we will be largely centering Mark Levine's model. Read More

My teaching method depends on what the student wants to learn, if they prefer to start learning songs first that is fine but I will still make sure to cover basic music principles in early lessons and incorporate them into the lessons. I can also start with method books but I have found that students don't always want to start there. For students that want a well rounded approach I will combine one of the common method books with simple songs and chords that the student can get going on right away. Read More

One of the first things I do with a the student is to let them play a bit for me so I can see the level they are at. I use for both the string bass and electric bass students the F.Simandl Method for string bass. There are also Etude books to follow and they include the 30 Etudes. The tuba students use the Arban's method if they are more advanced and the beginning students use the Rubank Method. Read More

For begining student I typically start with a book called Essential Elements. I supplement some of the things in the book with other literature and hand written exercise to help enhance learning experience. For Adults I try to find what genre and music style they would like to work on. This then allows me to plan a custom learning experience that best suits them and what they're looking to gain from the experience. Read More

It is very excited working with someone who is enthusiastic about music making. One way to achieve this kind of enthusiasm, and really cultivate a sense of joy in a musician’s playing, is to set specific and attainable goals for a student’s technique and musicianship. As a teacher, I demonstrate this enthusiasm and focus as much as possible during the lesson, with the hopes that the student will keep it going during the week and build upon it for the next lesson!
