Some time in 2006 I was asked by the director to become his assistant and began taking on groups of my own. In 2007 I also joined ECMM as a sales associate and apprentice luthier in their shop, selling and working on guitars and other instruments. It was unfortunate that ECMM closed in 2009 after 33 years. Working at East Coast was a great experience for me and something I will always cherish. What I loved most about the ROA program was that as I transitioned from a student to a teacher, I adopted the same teaching style as my mentor: let the students choose what they want to learn and help them to learn and perfect it. Being a well rounded guitar player is something I truly enjoy. I believe all the different musical styles have positive and enjoyable aspects to them. And of course much of it crosses over (between styles) in modern times. That being said, a student can focus on one style for a time (or exclusively), and build serious proficiency. Whether it be playing cover songs, personal or collective creativity (songwriting), or simply noodling around: I tailor my instruction to what a student is trying to achieve, while also preaching objective learning of the guitar. I believe that you never stop learning. Even when you are teaching. Thus I am not the teacher to show up without my own equipment and sit quietly while on plays what I gave them the week before. Everything will be done together. Iron sharpens iron. Goals will be realistic but challenging. Each session will include a review of everything else that's been worked on. Read More

I've actually written and produced my own music theory book that was in all Borders stores before they closed down. I've learned a few methods and I try to incorporate them all unless the student or parents wants something specific. My method is a method where I can teach 1 thing countless ways. I love my students to learn theory because it is a very important backbone to music. Some people can play instruments without ever really kwoing what they are playing or understand the theory behind it, and I think it holds them back from truely being creative and understanding of music.    With my methods students will be able to play from any genre, any book, and hopefully will be able to create their own music. My approach to teaching emphasizes creative expression, technical proficiency and musical exploration. I pay close attention to the goals of a given student and shape my curriculum based around their needs. If a student aspires to become a professional jazz guitarist, I teach them jazz chords, improvisational techniques and necessary reading skills. If a student aspires to write and perform their own songs, I teach them about writing guitar accompaniments, writing lyrics and crafting melodies. Read More

Ever since I first started playing I was always into teaching and sharing knowledge, in the practice room, on the bandstand. I was always learning and always trying to share what I knew to make the music sound better. Thats what its about really, trying to make the music as good as it can be, trying to make the vocalist or saxophone player sound great. Thats the role of the bassist. Read More

What Books and Methods I use depend on whether the student has a particular style in mind from the beginning of their studies. I will often use the Frederick Noad series of Books with students who know they want to study Classical Guitar and then progress to repertoire when the time seems right. If they aren't sure of what direction they want to go in I will use the Hal Leonard or Mel Bay Books to get them started, and when I start to see what direction they want to go in I will begin introducing different songs and repertoire to see what direction they seem to be headed towards. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
