My philosophy of teaching is to help the student play the music that he or she wants to play and give the student a practical understanding of the guitar and music theory. I teach the skills that enable the student to apply themselves to all forms of music. Each student is an individual and is taught in a manner that inspires his or her personality. Read More

I tailor a student's curriculum to their musical goals and needs, while making sure that I am instilling the fundamentals needed for pursuing music at the college scholarship level. Often this means scales, chords, arpeggios, music literacy, performance practice and listening skills. To accomplish this, I use standard materials that are often available online and are used by college and University music programs around the world. I have a variety of method books in different styles and from different time periods, and will select, assign, and provide a Method book to a student based on the student's goals. Read More

Attainable and tangible goals are what I am all about and that is what I design my lesson plan to accomplish. We will make a list of objectives and inspirations at our first lesson. Read More

On top of that, each student will receive a "riff of the week", a guitar riff from a song that is in line with their particular music tastes. For example, if the student in question likes Punk Rock music, every week we'd go over a riff from a popular Punk song. Read More

This approach helps prevent burnout and allows students to experience steady progress, which in turn builds confidence and a deeper connection to the instrument. When students see their efforts paying off, they are far more likely to develop a lasting passion for music. I have also found that incorporating a balance of classical and modern music can be extremely effective in keeping students engaged and motivated. Classical repertoire provides a strong technical and musical foundation, helping students develop proper technique, reading skills, and musical expression. Read More
