I have had the pleasure of working with my students on several genres including spirituals, sacred songs, classical, popular music and some show tunes. Some of my students are dancers and want to be fully prepared for auditions by exhibiting vocal and instrumental skills. My students understand that they are in a constant state of learning, as there are always new things to learn vocally and instrumentally. This understanding fuels their passion and makes teaching and learning a pleasure. Read More

I love watching my students grow and develop into wonderful, passionate musicians. In order to see this growth, it is important to provide an environment in which a student feels free to express themselves. As I believe expression and creativity to be the fundamentals of music making, a student needs to be able to have fun and be themselves during a lesson. As soon as a student becomes disinterested, the ability to grow and make music has been lost. Read More

I have experience teaching all ages, from 5th grade to 55+, and I find it the most rewarding when my students work hard, improve, and achieve their goals. I urge my students to practice regularly on a consistent schedule; improvement is dependent on this, but I also encourage them to explore. I foster learning more about the music and the people who make their favorite music great, and to seek and discover what they can do on/with the instrument. Read More

I use books recommended to me by the music stores, Opus Winds in Decatur, Ga. I also consult with other music teachers at times and shop for music that my students tell me they would like to learn. I also tell them they can shop at musicnotes.com and I will help them learn to play pieces they like. There is something to be learned from the way any genre of music is composed. Read More

I design my own curriculum for all of my voice students, which usually comprises of basic piano and theory skills and vocal technique. Dependent upon the students interest level and personal goals, I determine the extent of the materials and the pace of the lessons. Since I only teach beginner piano for children and teens, I usually stick to the basic beginner books (i.e. Hal Leonard or John Thompson) and slowly Incorporate solo repertoire. Read More
