Every new student comes to their first lesson with particular skills and musical interests. My job is to assess the students abilities and lead them down the appropriate paths to achieving their musical goals. My goal is to cultivate musicianship.  Students are encouraged to develop technical skills as a means of creative and emotional expression.  Sight reading and improvisation are taught simultaneously with music theory and composition. I typically start out with scales for beginner students. I use the Moyse book for long tones and scales, then start teaching repertoire. Repertoire includes, but are not limited to classical music from various time periods to contemporary music such as film scores. I emphasize foundational skills heavily so that students can play repertoires with more ease and precision. I make sure that all lessons are engaging and fun as I believe that the most important thing when playing music is simply enjoying the performance. Read More
