I am a freelance flutist based in New York City. I have experience as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. Graduating with my Bachelors of Music in Flute Performance from the Hartt School of Music in May of 2018, I am now finishing my Masters in Music from the University of New York. While I am an aspiring orchestral musician, I am also passionate about chamber music and collaborating with other musicians. Read More

For absolute beginners, I start by explaining different parts of the flute. I first work on the headjoint to make sure the student can produce a good sound with good air without assembling all parts together. After a student gets a good sound, I let them assemble the flute and start teaching one note at a time. I usually start with Essential Elements for Flute Level 1. If a student is more advanced, I use Rubank Intermediate/Advanced Books, and start learning more pieces. Read More

Because I feel like you can't learn technique without musicality, I think it is important to begin with that in mind and apply the skills we learn in the method book to the piece and visa versa. Some of my favorites are the Trevor Wye: A Beginner's Book of the Flute (there are 4 volumes), as well as the succession of Louis Moyse Flute Series beginning with Forty Little Pieces (these are in progressive order). Instruments: Piano Voice Flute Piccolo
My teaching experience began in college when I worked as a student volunteer in the Kean University Chamber Music ensemble. I worked with the vocalists in sectionals as well as one adult beginner flute player who I am good friends with. I later became the student assistant for that same ensemble my last semester in undergraduate as I continued to give critique and work with the flute student who was just starting, on the flute fundamentals such as sound, breathing, scales and long tones. I have been teaching for five years, beginning in Denver, Colorado. I began teaching Glee themed camps and dance classes through an organization in Denver, and then moved on to choreograph children's musicals (the largest of these had 80 children ages six to eighteen!). At my next studio I choreographed and music directed shows (Cinderella Junior and Aladdin Junior). At my busiest in Denver I had thirty-four private students. I teach several different styles of voice, as well as beginning - advanced piano, beginning - intermediate flute, and beginning ukulele. Read More
