In each educational situation, I aim to establish clear goals and assignments, build confidence through positive reinforcement, and explain concepts in an engaging manner appropriate to each student. In my private lessons I emphasize building a strong foundation in rhythm, intonation, and note accuracy.  I incorporate learning theory, and playing with musical intention into every lesson to develop maturity, even in young musicians.  My students are comfortable reading music, and have all the skills they need to practice effectively.  In addition, I have prepared many musicians for successful concerts, festivals, and gigs. Ive been teaching since I graduated from college. As a student, I attended the Jamey Aebersold summer jazz workshops, and was subsequently trained by Mr. Aebersold on how to specifically teach jazz improvisation. I became a teacher at his workshops and have since taught at many others. I began teaching while in college and have now been teaching for 11 years.  My students have ranged in age from 3-60.  Since getting my Suzuki Flute certification in 2008,  I have found the Suzuki method a great way to start young beginners.  In addition to giving private lessons, I taught group flute classes for 3 years with the Harmony Program  My students are encouraged to participate in ensembles, competitions and recitals as having such goals is a great motivation for practice and musical growth.
