While Joey loves to preform, he is passionate about teaching. He has been teaching since 2011. His teaching career began through the non-profit Bravo Waukegan in their Bravo Buddies Summer Camp. He began as the woodwind instructor and through the years worked to become the Artistic Director, managing all aspects of the month long camp. Joey has also served as the Director of Bands for Sistema Ravinia in Lake County and has worked as a teaching artist with the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic and for the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. I am a jazz musician and composer at heart. The woodwinds (saxophone, flute, clarinet and ewi (Electronic Wind Instrument)) will always be my main performing instruments. I graduated in 2011 with a BA in music education from Brooklyn College, and recently graduated with a MA in Jazz Performance in 2020 from New Jersey City University. I began teaching in my undergraduate degree at Kutztown, PA. There I began working with the flute studio from a nearby high school. As I have moved to New Jersey, I have taken on my own private studio. I have students ranging in ages 4-50+. I have been teaching for more than four years, and each time I encounter a student, I encounter new challenges. I am somewhat stern, yet kind, and I can easily make students laugh. I also try to find out more about the subject that each student likes so that we can both incorporate a bit of fun into the lesson.
