Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I would best describe my teaching style as "Learn how to have fun playing music, simply." I am thankful for being blessed with an ability to hear how my student plays and quickly and accurately prescribe a simple fix to get over hurdles. Sometimes all it takes is looking at things a different way to realize something and clear up confusion. Just like in life, sometimes with music all it takes is your teacher saying something a different way or helping you look at the music from a different angle. Read More

I began teaching as a young flutist, but started teaching private flute lessons during my freshmen year of college, and have been teaching both kids and adults since then. I have performed with the Skidmore College Orchestra as the principal flutist as well as the Skidmore Wind Ensemble, Skidmore Chorus, composition recitals, and vocal recitals. In 2018, I won second prize in the Skidmore Concerto Competition and performed Reineckes flute concerto with the Skidmore Orchestra in March, 2019. Read More

I focus on tone production, articulation and phrasing. Sight reading, improvisation and music theory follow next. With clarinet and saxophone students I spend a lot of time on reed selection and care. There are so many misconceptions about reed strength and how it relates to mouthpieces that I could talk about it all day (and usually do). I work on clarinets and saxophones every day and consider myself proficient in identifying problems with instruments and then fixing those problems. Read More

While I generally begin with the Rubank Method and move onto a more personalized approach after 7th or 8th grade, I am always focused on providing the individual student with the best guidance possible. I like to encourage solo performance for friends and family early on to achieve performance experience and mitigate nervousness. If a student is interested in jazz or other styles of improvisation or composition, they will have a chance to get their feet wet in these areas at a young age as well. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet Recorder Bassoon
My goal in teaching woodwinds is to inspire young artists to find the joy in their own development. As a teaching musician for the past nine years, I have found my own joy in teaching on-on-one and watching my students progress over time. I like to teach active lessons full of movement, creation, and student-driven ideas. I teach the instrument - the notes, rhythms, techniques, but my students shine in their ability to use that knowledge to create something new and to feel confident about it. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet
My first love is jazz, and as such I have a strong love of improvisation and aural skills, which I believe are relevant in all forms of music (even Bach improvised!). Once some fundamental skills and theoretical knowledge is ascertained, I like to build on more advanced musical skills like learning songs by ear, being able to identify certain common chord progressions, helpful tips for memorizing pieces, and learning to personalize music through expressive techniques and improvisational application where appropriate. Instruments: Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I start beginners off with the Rubank Elementary Method, which introduces reading, scales, arpeggios, and expressive devices such as dynamics and articulation. I also like students to start with improvisation, composition, and ear training as soon as possible. I encourage them to both work on whatever repertoire interests them and find new types of music they don't know they're interested in yet. More advanced students may progress to some of the more advanced music theory, technical etude books, and scale/arpeggio exercises. Read More
