I'm new to teaching guitar and voice, however, I'm not new to teaching as I have struggled to learn certain subjects in school such as mathematics, and I am aware of the hardships that can be associated with what I call the learning curve. Almost everything in life has the learning curve so when I teach I do it in such a way that is easily understandable; because I remember being in the same position as the person I am currently teaching, and I think I wish this person taught me how to do this in this way, in a more simplistic way. I first talk with my students to figure out their goals. Once a reasonable goal has been agreed upon, I enthusiastically help them jump right into playing their instrument. By breaking up portions of the lesson with review of simpler pieces, I encourage my students to play fun and simpler things as well, so that they do not beocme frustrated. I always bring my positive attitude to each lesson, and have the students write down what to work on after each lesson. Read More

I taught children and adults from beginners to advanced intermediate. There I coached choirs of beginners to sing classical and folk music of high quality and did outstanding concerts around the island. All along I never ceased to teach myself new disciplines. I self taught counterpoint Renaissance style and some time ago while in Toronto Canada I was able to coach a university student there on Counterpoint when she was having trouble for her test in which she finally excelled after our lessons. With the beginning students I use Alfred and Bastien piano instructional books. Also, the children simultaneously learn to read notes and understand music notation. In my teaching method the goal is to combine high level of technique with musicality and individual interpretation. The beginners’ lessons are systematized as a successful blend of fun musical games and new academic material, thus learning new is fun and inspiring. In teaching adults, after they are comfortable with the basics, they can play songs in the genre they prefer - classical, pop or jazz. Read More

I continued mentoring the entering students until I moved to the United States, where I quickly started volunteering as a tutor at the Miami Music Project, and shortly after at the Siman Orchestral Foundation. When I moved to Boston to finish college, I did not have the time to volunteer formally at any institution, but as a part of my curriculum, I visited several public schools, observed and evaluated the teacher's methods. For beginning students, we work on breathing and different warm up techniques. Once the student has progressed we will then start solo repertories for different genres. For adults, I try to research what insterest the student has in signing and guide my instruction towards the interest of the student so it can be fun. Read More

I typically use a combination of methods in the private lesson setting-method books, etude books, books for technique, solo repertoire, and pop/rock/jazz music and or charts for contemporary study. For beginners, I like Essential Elements 2000, Faber Method, Suzuki solo books, and easy pop music books. For more advanced students, I will incorporate advanced methods such as etude books/orchestral excerpts along with repertoire geared more towards polishing for recital or performance. Read More
