I am a bonified voice geek meaning that ever since I started teaching in 1984, I have been obsessed with understanding the human voice. Ive studied the anatomy, physiology, acoustics, and psychology of how it all works but more importantly, Ive studied how to apply all of that science to helping people speak and sing better without making clients wade through technical termsunless they want to. For beginning to students I like to have them learn their notes on the bass guitar first and foremost. Once we have become familiar with the neck of the bass we introduce Hal Leonards's Bass Method Book 1. This will build our foundation for learning to read time signatures, notes in bass clef, rhythms, as well as playing complete songs. The relationship between student and teacher is foundational for growth. I take time to get to know every student as an individual to help them feel supported and comfortable in lessons. I encourage each student to set realistic goals and work at their own pace. We will work on a piece until it is performance ready, meaning it is note perfect, memorized, and blocked.
