I've taught voice at Northwest University for the past 5 years. In 2010, I joined the faculty of the Bellevue School of Music, and last fall began teaching at the Gene Nastri Community School of the Arts in Mukilteo. I also conduct a church choir. I believe strongly that it is important for anyone who sings to study classical technique, regardless of what style of singing they wish to do. There is no point in learning what to do if you don't know why you are doing it, so teaching "the why" of every exercise is very important to me. The idea is to eventually teach myself out of a job! While I provide a general syllabus to each student, I prefer to customize my lesson plans to the individual, first finding out what their goals are and then deciding what will help us achieve them. I feel each of my students are unique. I love watching my students' level of musical understanding progress. I love seeing the dedication and determination begin to heighten as the lessons progress. Within each lesson I point out areas that need to be worked on as well as areas of improvement. Seeing one's progress is the most important element to me for my students. Therefore, I like to record my students quarterly for a few minutes within a lesson to show the mass amounts of improvement they will accomplish. Read More

I'm a passionate music educator with considerable experience as a teacher and performer. I graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2005 where I studied music education with an emphasis on trombone. Since graduation, I have been fortunate to have many opportunities to conduct, perform, and teach music. I play a many different instruments and perform many different genres and styles. Whether it be conducting student ensembles, performing in small clubs, or singing with a chorus at Carnegie Hall, many of my best life experiences have been because of music and I want to guide my students toward their own great musical experiences. I've been teaching music, in some capacity, since I was 17 and captain of my highschool's drumline. In college I taught drumset lessons to students of all ages and in graduate school I taught a music theory course for 5 semesters as well as classical percussion to 6th - 8th graders. Getting to know my students, what they like and don't like, what they read and listen to, is one of my favorite things and I think it really helps engender a life long passion for music when a teacher takes a personal interest in the students lives.
