I will absolutely curate an individual approach to each student's skill level and experience, but all of my lessons will share the same core values. Sight singing, aural skills, music theory, and efficient practice techniques will all be at the forefront. Working for a local drum teacher in 2005, I started teaching private music lessons in students' homes. From there, I took up residence at a local music store where I taught guitar, ukulele, bass, harmonica, songwriting, and music theory for the next fifteen years. During the pandemic, I added teaching virtually to my repertoire and have fallen in love with it. My teaching style is very transparent; I want my students to recognize what we are working towards and how close they realistically are to that goal. This way, the student and I are working together to achieve a greater understanding of their instrument! I love feeling like I'm helping a student gain an understanding of a topic, rather than simply dictating a list of rules to know. I myself have an appreciation for many different styles of music, so I do my best to help students understand stylistically what is appropriate, necessary, and customary about the repertoire they are performing. Students who are young beginners, I like to start with Hal Leonard's My First Piano. It's written for ages 5 and 6 full of excitement and imagination. Once the student has completed the C level of this book, or if I feel as though they are ready for the next level sooner than expected, we will move on to solo repertoire. Im currently a singing teacher and a dance teacher currently with a studio. I teach whatever style the student is most interested in but I specialize in pop, rb, and musical theatre. My love of teaching became stronger than ever after I recovered from a vocal disorder that changed my life. Everything I learned from that experience encouraged me to spread awarness of vocal health.
