My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time for school years, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 17 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I work to foster a love of music and a desire to excel in each of my students. I want them to practice because they love it and want to succeed! I also feel that it is important to be a well rounded musician, so we will focus on theory, sight reading, composition, musicianship, performance-practice, and other important and fun aspects of music. I believe that it is important to be grounded in a classical foundation (for both piano and voice students), but I also make sure to bring in pieces of the student's favorite style- which I find helps motivate them to practice and enjoy lessons even more. Also an avid performer herself, Adrienne has toured with the New York Harlem Productions company of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, appearing as the Strawberry Woman in important European venues including the Komische Oper Berlin. She has sung in Carnegie Hall and appears on the Grammy Award winning CD “Songs of Innocence and Experience.” Perhaps her most noteworthy performance was singing for President Obama at his second term Inaugural Prayer Service. My teaching experience encompasses students of all ages. I began teaching in the UK where I taught voice lessons St. Georges School, Windsor Castle, for 4 years to boys and girls aged 4-13. I also taught solo and group lessons at a local High School. I currently teach private voice lessons and substitute at a DC area voice studio. Over the years I have taught multiple genres of music, including pop, folk and musical theatre, though predominantly my experience lies within the realms of classical, opera and choral music. In my two years of teaching, Ive learned the best way to encourage consistent practice is to set realistic short term and long term goals: Finding and pursuing performance opportunities, auditioning for summer camps, preparing a performance for your family, etc. When there is an end goal, we can more clearly plan out what things to focus on in lessons.
