Instruments: Piano Voice

My teaching experience dates back to my days as a graduate vocal performance student at California Institute of the Arts, where I taught undergraduate and graduate instrumentalists how to use their voices. I also taught voice to actors while I was singing in an opera house in Germany. Since then, I've worked with all ages of students in private lessons and groups. I especially love to work on musicals with children and teens, and can also help prepare students for college and professional auditions. Read More

I have been working in the music industry and teaching for over six years. I have lived in London, New York City, and Los Angeles, and have worked in each city, leading my experience to be unique and easily adaptable. I have found a lot of success with students when I am consistently encouraging them to perform in front of Pias and family. This is how I became a music, professional, and hope to get my students there also. Read More

Instruments: Voice

I personally practice SOVT, where we start with light humming, use a semi-occluded means of vocalizing (such as lip trills or a straw in water). Then we move on to actual vocalizations. I like to start with vocalizing in ways that are natural and allow the vocal instrument to practice its range freely. I also incorporate light movement along with vocalizing that might bring more breath into a region of the body that frees up a certain pitch (for example, lower back). Read More

Instruments: Voice Trumpet Saxophone Flute Clarinet Recorder

For any type of student, beginner or not, I focus on building the skills of the individual to create successes on their own. My goal is to provide the student with skills and abilities that not only will provide them with a fruitful musical life, but also allow them to transfer the ethics and habits to any other career. I also go in depth to reasoning and pedagogical reasoning for my explanations so that the student can engage in critical thinking and draw conclusions on their own. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice Acoustic Guitar

I've been singing my entire life (I have home videos singing Andrea Boccelli in the bathtub) and singing has been in my family for many generations. I began playing guitar and writing songs since high school, so I have four years of experience playing and singing together, writing songs, and performing them. In high school I took a few lessons in a combo class for guitar and voice, but mostly learned from YouTube! Read More

...featured a lighter action which meant it was easier to play because it was more suitable for passages with repetition.   But the biggest difference between Cristofori’s invention and the piano was its uncanny dynamic capabilities. Never before or since has there been an instrument that allows players to play with such power and nuance.   The incredible new invention took many years to gain popularity because it was so expensive to make. Pianos didn’t really take off until the 1760’s when cheaper square adaptations of the instrument were made. Cristofori most likely had no idea that his invention would become one of the... Read More

...Boheme.     Spinto sopranos, like Sondra Radvanovsky, have the ability to sing high with an effortless tone (up to a C6 or D6) while also projecting lower tones that border the dramatic range. Texture-wise, spintos are able to project a darker–and sometimes edgier–sound than lyric sopranos, and as such they portray a wider range of operatic emotions than other singers. The word “spinto” comes from an Italian word meaning “to push.” Famous roles include Cio-Cio San in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and Aida in Verdi’s Aida. What the Dramatic Soprano lacks in athleticism and agility, it makes up for with strength and ... Read More

...see what happens. If the child enjoys the music, they will generally start trying to dance to it a little bit. This is a very primal human thing. Human beings tend to move in time with music that they hear and enjoy. This is, of course, the foundation of dance at all levels, from flirty nightclub shimmying to the most disciplined dance troupes in the world.   If you are having a hard time keeping the rhythm of a song, don’t be afraid to sway to the beat a little bit so that you feel the rhythm more viscerally than you would by tapping your ... Stars in Our Eyes: An Interview with Paul Huang, Young Concert Artists' Brightest New Recruit

...you choose the violin in the first place? Actually, my parents took me to a violin lesson when I was four and I hated it. Nobody at age four sounds good on a violin, it’s just awkward and you never make good sounds. I told my mom I wanted to start playing piano instead. When I was seven, we went to a violin recital and I was immediately amazed at how this little wooden box could project through this 2,000 foot hall without any amplification, and the performer had an amazing stage presence. Right after the concert, I told my mom I wanted ... Read More
