I enjoy helping my students develop knowledge of the vocal apparatus and mechanics of singing and breathing. In the studio I can find examples of or demonstrate vocal techniques and styles. I have found that most students respond well to the use of imagery to extract the emotional component of singing and I find that my flexibility, energy, ability to maintain focus on objectives, and my ability to communicate musical concepts and instructions clearly is essential to getting my students to produce better sounds. For young children (ages 4-10), I focus primarily on building a foundation in rhythm, pitch matching, and vocal warm ups (wolf howls, lip trills, tongue trills, etc.). I also encourage young children to bring in songs they enjoy singing, and use those songs to help build their understanding of musical structure. From 5 to 8 years old, the lesson takes place in a playful way. Easy hand exercises, simple rhythmic patterns, pieces with polyphonic elements. From 8 to 12 in the program there are scales and exercises by L. Ganon, J. Bach, W. Mozart, P. Tchaikovsky, and K. Cherny. I first try to establish why the student wants to learn their instrument and what artists/bands they are influenced by if any. Although I do try to establish goals for them, these goals are reasonable and attainable. It is important to me that they progress at their own pace and have fun as well. Nothing is more important to me than helping others develop a passion for music and I will use anything from Bach to Beethoven or The Beatles to Guns N'Roses to help them achieve it. Read More

Recently I was hired as piano instructor for Quartertonez Music, in Washington DC. Also, I have had experience teaching and studying music education under my high school mentor, renowned music teacher Tim Savage; I was his student-teacher for a semester course at St. Lawrence University. Additionally, throughout my experience as his music student, his teaching approach has infused music education and facilitation lessons within the musical instruction itself.
