I am a highly motivated, hard-working, and outgoing individual. I love people and believe thatteachingmusic lessons is one the best ways to connect with students of all ages and develop a relationship with them. I started learning piano in Kindergarten, began Saxophone in my 5th grade Band, and started tutoring other band students in 6th Grade. In 7th Grade I earned scholarship to attend Illinois Summer Youth Music Camp at the University of Illinois. Read More

I came to realize that I have a way with students that really brings them out of their shells and gets them excited about learning to sing. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity, on stage and as a teacher, to inspire students of all ages. I am a very passionate vocalist, and I want to show my students how to be as well. I look forward to working with you! Read More

For me, enjoyment as well as developing proper, healthy technique is key. This means that student may have to do more gritty work than with other teachers, but this pays off as they get to tackle more challenging rep and ultimately can connect skills to repertoire more quickly. However, I always like to meet students where they're at. If they want to learn how to play their favorite pop song on piano, or want to audition for their local theater's musical theater production, my priority will always be teaching in ways that the student feels is relevant to their goals and interests. My teaching style has been described by students as such: "Natural, with a focus on healthy singing," "concentrating on developing techniques specific to each genre of music," and "always fun but still really helpful!" I emphasize becoming self-sufficient as a musician so that my students can become great musicians outside of the lesson environment. We work together during each lesson to safely develop the voice and learn techniques appropriate to each style of music. Read More

Everyone has heard horror stories of music lessons that they were forced to take with teachers who forced students to play music they were not interested in. I whole heartily believe that this is the fastest way to severe a student's relationship with creating music. The musical education process should be one that the student enjoys and wants to nurture to become the best musician they can! Depending on the level of the student and the instrument, I begin with fundamentals such as scales and note names, to foster a better musical understanding, while simultaneously including music that the student can enjoy that ties in with the fundamentals we are currently working on. In my piano classes I use the Bastien piano method beginning at the primer level for the children. If they have had previous lessons, I am more than willing to continue with their current method. For adult piano students I use the Older Beginner Piano Course by Bastien. Again, if they wish to continue with previously studied materials, I am more than happy to comply with that. For voice students, the music is geared to the individual. Read More

My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had. If I was to emphasize anything about learning the art, it would be the understanding of interpretation and how to make any music into something that is uniquely yours. Read More
