I have been experiencing the love of playing and performing music for 40 years and still find it challenging to this day. Music is a journey of the senses which can open and expand our minds.For the first 11 years of my musical journey, I journeyed hours and hours in the discovery of the rhythms, notes and expression but I journeyed in solitude.What a wonderful joy wasawaiting me when I discovered how much fun it was to make music as part of an ensemble or as I like to think of it, a team.A musical team can be a band, an orchestra, a chorus, a churchchoir,a quartet, ora duet, and in all cases it is exhilarating to make music with other people.I hope that I can guide and encourage my students to learn to enjoy this journey that can provide a life time of adventure, social interaction and creativity.  Music is a very physical thing as well as a very abstract thing.  In my lessons, there will be kennistetic learning through movement as well as teaching through sensation. Using tools like Solfege it helps create muscle memory and tuning. Piano students will learn a wealth of theory knowledge, correct posture and fingering patterns. I will also encourage singing in my piano lessons to reaffirm the student's aural skills. The Alexander Technique is also something that my students will explore in our lessons. Read More

I start off by addressing breath and phonation, even with the mostadvanced singers, because singing, like anything in life, is alwaysabout the fundamental basics. I give students exercises that will helpthe student find their true and most efficient voice. I help buildmuscles that will aid in this as well. There is nothing more rewarding for me than the "lightbulb" moments. To see a student light up with excitement over the satisfaction of knowing he or she has been able to achieve or conquer a concept or a piece of music is so awesome for me. I look at each student individually to assess their potential and goals before setting a book or particular study plan. Once the student has begun basic technique exercises, I assign book levels and vocal repertoire that fits their interests as well as matching what I feel the student needs to be working on. I approach children and adults with the same methods: 1)Find out what the student's goals are. 2)Assign repertoire/technique exercises. that will help them reach those goals while allowing me to teach them the skills they need to attain those goals Read More
