Prior to joining HBU, Ms. Haiyan S. taught voice and associated music classes at Texas Southern University for 5 years. She has also served as the artistic director for the Summer Vocal Program at Peiwen School of Peking University, China. Ms. Haiyan S, has performed as a Studio Artist with the L’Arte Del Bel Canto in Milan, Italy on multiple occasions. I believe the process of learning involves a step-by-step building of knowledge and skill, reinforcing previous accomplishments in order to be prepared for new developments. Therefore I create a plan for each lesson with specific goals of student achievement. At times however, even the most carefully prepared lesson can evolve into unexpected pathways. Method or style technique used will always depend on the preference and requirements of the student. It will also depend on the style of music. For example, classical guitar requires perfection of technique for good execution. This requires practice of scales, arpeggios and such. However, if the student is older and just wants to be able to strum a few chords then that requires a different approach where we focus on simple technique and work on things like rhythm or posture etc. Read More
